Sex-specific PGR (progesterone receptor) regulation by E2 in human cardiac tissues. (A) E2 increased the PGR gene expression level in tissues of female individuals (n = 4, adjusted P = 0.001) but (B) the same treatment had no effect in tissues from male individuals (n = 9, adjusted P = 0.9). (C) E2 exposure increased the PGR protein level in tissues of female individuals (n = 4, adjusted P = 0.03). (D) On the other hand, the same treatment with E2 revealed a decreasing trend of the PGR protein level in tissues of male individuals (n = 4, adjusted P = 0.079).
